Can You Still Lose Weight and Drink Alcohol or Wine?
Are You Ready for The Alcohol Challenge!
What Does Giving Up 2 Days/Week of Drinking Do for You?
You may be surprised…
I LOVE wine. Those that know me, know…I LOVE WINE. Especially Chardonnay. I do enjoy a nice red wine, however white wine is my FAVORITE.
As a matter of fact, I like to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner, one with dinner and a small glass with my 3 dark chocolate covered almonds for dessert. It makes for a perfect evening.
The question remains can you lose weight and still drink alcohol and wine? The answer….yes you can.
Now…moderation is going to be the key here.
I thought of this “challenge” for myself. Let me know if you are in….
Because I like to have my Chardonnay on a nightly basis, I did some calculating. This year is a big year for me because I turn the big 5-0! Unfortunately, maintaining my weight does get a little tougher each year. So I thought, what happens if I give up some alcohol?
I decided to give up wine 2 days/week. No alcohol…which is fine.
What does this really mean though?
How the Math Adds Up:
If you eliminate alcohol 2 days/week that = 8 days/month.
To be simplistic, I rounded down to 1 week/month.
If you do this for 1 year, this equates to 12 weeks/year that you are not drinking.
12 weeks = 3 months of no alcohol for the course of the year. THAT’S A LOT!!!
Take it a step further!
For example, I would drink a ½ bottle each evening.
This equals 45 bottles that I am not drinking each year.
Now….there are 600-625 calories in a bottle of Chardonnay. Multiply that by 45 and that = 28,125 calories.
There are 3500 calories in 1 pound.
This equals 8 pounds worth of calories! YIKES! Just from the wine! 8 pounds down by not drinking 2 days a week! CRAZY!
The other thing to think about besides calories is alcohol does slow down the metabolism. So reducing the amount that you drink each week can make a huge impact over the course of a year.
What is your drink of choice? Have you looked at the calories?
Calories still matter and so does the quality of those calories. Let’s make those calories worth it for our body.
It is well known that if you want to lose weight, one of the first things you give up is drinking alcohol.
First, the law of moderation comes in to play here! I definitely don’t believe in giving up certain foods or drinks completely – even when you are trying to lose weight.
Let’s preface that some….if you are drinking 6 beers a day…ok…you may need to cut back some. Are you eating a bunch of processed foods and junk food? Ok,…you may need to cut back and make some healthier choices.
Weight loss doesn’t have to be that challenging! We just have a tendency to make it hard! Let’s keep the alcohol portion of this simple also.
What Does a Serving Size Look Like?
Yep, this is what a serving looks like! Have you ever measured out 5 oz of wine?
How much to drink? Again…..Moderation….
Men: 2 drinks/day
Women: 1 drink/day
- 1) Eat some protein and high fiber foods when drinking
- 2) Drink 8 oz of water with each drink you have. Alternate between water and your alcohol. This keeps you more hydrated and MUCH less of a hangover!
After You Drink….
- 1) Hydrate before bed! You want to get your electrolytes in! This is one of my favorite ways to hydrate before bed – with Hydrate! I use this all the time! Click here!
