Bison Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park in 1 Day

Yes, Yellowstone National Park can be done in 1 Day!  It depends on what type of traveler you are, and Roy and I like to look at the scenery rather than stopping at every stop possible.  This is our first National Park to visit for both of us.

Yellowstone happened to pretty much “be in the way” on our way home from all the golf, so we thought we better stop!

We made plenty of stops to get out and walk around, take pictures etc. and we saw some pretty cool stuff.

We entered Yellowstone from the North side (Gardiner, MT).  I figured everybody would be headed down to Old Faithful so I thought…let’s go to the “Grand Canyon of Yellowstone” first (as this was recommended to see if you are in Yellowstone for 1 Day).  As we’re driving, we see the sign for “Tower is closed”.  What does that really mean?  Yep, the road from Tower to Canyon is closed.  We had to turn around…then we ran into this guy.

Right smack dab in the middle of the road and he was in no hurry to move for us.

I knew I wanted to get to the Grand Prismatic Springs as these were recommended for a Day Trip as well.  This is very interesting and the smell…yep, lots of sulphur smell in the air.  Let’s head toward Old Faithful and this will be on the way.

Next on the list…of course, Old Faithful.  I had downloaded the Yellowstone App so you can see the predicted times of when the Geysers will do their thing…We were able to catch Old Faithful within 10 minutes of getting there.  Have to say it was pretty cool.

Let’s keep driving…This time from Old Faithful to the West Thumb which takes you to Yellowstone Lake!  What a massive lake and of course beautiful.

Some fun facts about Yellowstone Lake:
1) Maximum depth is 410 feet
2) Surface Elevation: 7733 ft

We keep heading north toward Canyon Village because that’s where the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is….We check out the Water Falls and they are absolutely breath taking!  On the way to the falls, we passed Sulphur Caldron and Mud Volcano.  Didn’t stop because the sulphur smell was SO strong.  The Falls were much better!

We had a few other stops along the way heading back up toward the North Entrance…Roaring Mountain

Yes, Yellowstone can be done in a day when that is all the time you have.  Tomorrow…start heading back towards home.  Obviously there is a lot we missed, however, I feel like we saw a TON of the park!

Have patience while driving as you never know when someone in front of you decides to stop or has to stop due to an animal.  Plus there are just some really slow drivers also!

This has been a great journey for our first ever 17-day golf road trip.
